David Brown served as a private in Conn. Militia. He entered the service of the United States as a volunteer in the month of April 1776, under the command of Captain John Morgan and Lt Williams in the Regiment commanded by Col. Nathan Gallup, all of the town of Groton, Conn.  He was emloyed at that time in guarding the shore of the river and building what was called the Groton Fort.  He was detached from Capt Morgan's Company and went into a company commanded by Capt Ralph Stoddard and worked steady at helping to build Fort Groton for a term of one month. He then returned to Capt. Morgan's company.  He continued in the service for over two years. He left service in Groton. Conn. He applied for and received a pension (Pension # S 22 136) as found on page 153, Index Rev War Pensions.
